Artist Statement

After completing medical residency, I picked up a camera attempting to do more than family snapshots. I wanted to tell stories. I soon discovered that what I saw and what appeared in the print were often quite different. Enter digital cameras and Photoshop. Now as I continue learning to create the image I saw in my mind when pushing the shutter using digital tools. After retiring from medicine, I have been able to devote far more time to image creation. The images I make create mood and meaning. My portraits voice aspects of personhood. Landscapes tell of place and time. I strive evoke concepts and ideas when viewing the images.  The series “Walking” represents my latest attempts. Each image shows a woman walking away “From? To? Where?” Each images combines landscape with model to create a story. Much of the story is determined by the viewer.
